ADA and IDA Defend Fluoridated Water for Iowa Communities

Last week, the ADA and IDA were notified of two Iowa communities, Audubon (southwest Iowa) and Wilton (eastern Iowa), considering discontinuing fluoridating their local water systems. IDA sent a call to action to dentists surrounding these cities asking them to attend the city council meetings on Monday, May 13, or draft letters supporting fluoridated water. A downloadable letter template is available.

In addition, IDA President Dr. Chris Bogue and ADA Executive Director Dr. Ray Cohlmia summited letters to the cities discussing the health benefits of fluoridated water on overall health and well-being.

We are happy to report the Audubon City Council voted unanimously to continue fluoridating its water supply. Thank you to Mindy Wells from the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services for presenting at the meeting last evening.

The IDA will continue to monitor the discussions in Wilton and provide updates as they become available in the IDA Today
